Project description
Cannabis business owners and operators needed to monitor a fast-moving combination of state regulations, licensing decisions, local government updates, competitor activity, product news, industry trends, enforcement actions, and market developments. Relevant information was distributed across news websites, trade publications, regulatory portals, press releases, blogs, and local media. Manually reviewing these sources every day was inefficient, while generic news alerts often produced duplicated or irrelevant results.
I designed and developed CrystalBall as an automated media-monitoring and intelligence platform for the cannabis industry. Scheduled data-collection workflows gather articles and updates from selected news APIs, RSS feeds, websites, industry publications, and regulatory sources. AI processing extracts the title, publication, location, organizations, people, topic, sentiment, and business relevance from each item. Similar stories are grouped together to prevent duplicate alerts, while a relevance-scoring engine prioritizes developments according to each customer’s saved locations, categories, competitors, and business interests. Users can explore everything through a searchable dashboard and receive a personalized daily email report containing concise AI summaries, source links, important developments, and suggested items requiring attention.
